Home remedy for irritated gums

Honey and cinnamon go so well together

If you're like me you enjoy lots of foods flavored with honey and cinnamon like graham crackers, cereal, tea, and desserts. But did you also know that honey and cinnamon have natural anti-bacterial properties and together can help treat irritated gums?

Whenever I experience minor gum irritation I run straight to my pantry for relief. I make a paste out of a few drops of honey and a sprinkling of cinnamon powder. I rub the mixture on the irritated gum area and if it's near the root of a tooth I floss with a piece of dental floss coated with the mixture.

I've experienced immediate relief and have had gum pain disappear after just one application. Added benefit - it's a tasty treatment! And it's okay if you swallow it.

This is just a home remedy I use occasionally for minor discomfort. I advocate visiting the dentist every 6 months for a check-up and cleaning. And of course floss and brush twice a day!

Life hack: Create a hair tie from a latex glove

I can't remember exactly where I was - either volunteering at the American Red Cross or at a hospital but I was in desperate need of a hair tie. I learned this hair tie life hack from a nurse.

She grabbed a latex glove like one of these.

She grabbed the end of the glove (opposite the fingers side) and ripped it off.

You end up with this - it's like a rubber band!

Pull your hair back with it and you're good to go!

I never thought I'd use this life hack again but it came in handy at the gym of all places. I forgot a hair tie and asked the front desk for one. The guy opened a bunch of drawers and didn't find any. I spotted a box of latex gloves and asked for a glove. Problem solved!

Life hack: reinforce your cords with a pen spring

I tried this life hack and it worked! My iPhone charger cord was coming undone...

I removed the spring from a pen, snipped off the ends of the spring, and reinforced my charger cord!

Life hack for leftover chicken broth

Here's my life hack for the "too much leftover chicken broth" problem. I make chicken broth ice cubes! I'll pop a cube into dishes as needed - perfect when you need a little extra flavor or liquid.
